This course is intended to increase your ability to use and make decisions using the information presented in the financial statements of publicly traded companies. Several different decision contexts will be examined including valuation of potential acquisitions, equity analysis, credit analysis, managing corporate financing policies, and analyzing business communications. While completing the course you will analyze and value a real-world company.
Course Objectives
The activities, content, and assignments in this course will help you be able to do the following:
- Read, interpret, and explain financial statements of for-profit entities
- Compute and interpret financial ratios and other metrics used to gauge firm performance
- Differentiate between accounting methods and re-state financial statements to adjust for differences in accounting
- Conduct and interpret profitability analysis and compare performance across companies
- Analyze and interpret a company's credit risk
- Forecast a company's financial statements under simple assumptions
- Conduct basic valuation analysis for a public company
