Tips for virtual presentations
- Groups should decide ahead of time which team member will present which sections.
- Please have your PowerPoint open on your desktop and ready to screen share. If you want to test how your presentation will work you are free to use my Zoom room (the one you go in for class) on a space-available basis to test it. If you let me know you did this and want to see your video, be sure that "record" is set and let me know and I will send you the link when it comes up. If you do this please introduce yourself so I know whose it is. For example, "I am Joe and this is Team 12."
- In PowerPoint, avoid putting too much text on the screen. Try to use large, clear images and font. In the "shared screen" mode, the screen becomes a screen-within-a-screen so it may appear a bit smaller than usual.
- Set settings to show who is speaking.
- Have only one team member "share screen" of the ppt. They can click through slides for the other speakers. This will eliminate the extra time needed to switch 'screen share' modes from speaker to speaker. If a team member is speaking, they can tell the person in charge of the ppt "Next" when they are ready to move on to the next slide.
- Try to engage the audience with questions, polls, and raised hands. For example, the speaker might ask the audience to type their answers to a question posed by the speaker in the instant messaging chat box in Zoom. Then the speaker can respond.
Below are some useful resources that may help your presentations. The video is about 30 minutes, but quite good.
