OVERVIEW
The proof that a new age of creating natural knowledge had commenced was often seen by contemporaries as symbolized by Isaac Newton's establishment of the the laws of motion and the universal law of gravitation. We will consider what it meant "to be a Newtonian" in the aftermath of the printing of Newton's Principia Mathematica of 1687 and his treatise on Opticks of 1704, and how science and society were intertwined in this time period.

The reading in our core text provides content and analysis that you will use to build your knowledge base, and that will serve as the basis for your reflective essay that is due at the end of the week. The questions for your reflective essay are designed to assess the material and determine what you find to be most significant and to explain why. The Crash Course video provides background information and context for the lesson, and the biographical documentary provides an opportunity to dive more deeply into a key aspect of the lesson .
