Overview
The GIS 4013/5013 final exam is designed to test your aptitude completing various GIS tasks. Many of these methods were covered in class. However, some may be new to you. It is not uncommon for a GIS practitioner to be tasked with problems to which they may not readily know the solution(s). Finding the appropriate methods and tools to use for problem solving is part and parcel of being a proficient GIS user. Occasionally, this takes trial and error. This motivates the exam.
The exam is partitioned into five sections, each of which has a hypothetical scenario and a steps you are to take to compete each section. Read the directions carefully. You will be asked to complete specific tasks with very specific deliverables. You are being graded, in part, on following these directions. The final deliverables are mentioned at the end of the exam.
Note: Do not be surprised or confused if you do the same operations multiple times. This is very common in GIS analysis.
You are welcome to use any resources available (textbooks, notes, the Internet, the instructor, etc.) except for other living, breathing sentient beings beyond your instructor (kitties, puppies, etc. can be used for comfort but not exam help). All deliverables and answers must be your own. (Hence why you must read the directions carefully—I am making it difficult to use others’ work).
The data for this exam were developed and/or modified for the purpose of this exam. They should not be used for any other purpose than this examination.
