Description

This 8-week course uses discussion boards as a space where students can analyze, apply, and work through sensitive concepts. The instructor includes weekly discussions that have specific requirements designed to yield back-and-forth conversation. For example, a student's original post must be at least 200 words and cite/reference/quote our text and they must respond to at least two other classmate’s questions. Finally, they are required to provide a rejoinder to at least one comment on their own original post. The goal is for students to interact with the course materials, with each other, and with the instructor. To allow time for responses, original posts are due by Thursday and rejoinders are due on Sunday.

Additionally, one discussion board serves as an informal space where students share “memes” as a fun way of bridging the gap between discussion of concepts in academic discourse versus the popular imagination.
