Overview of Assignment:

Grassroots movements are built from the power of local and community involvement (connectbrevard.org, 2021). In addition to educating us, campus and community events offer everyone a way to meet, consider timely topics of interest, and cultivate social connections with others. At OU.edu, students may find a calendar of campus events and weblinks to over 400 student organizations approved by The University of Oklahoma. Campus and community grassroot organizations often start locally and aim to raise money, awareness to their cause, build recognition, and, if possible, broaden participation to make their objectives a reality. These groups operate in consistent ways, including hosting meetings and distributing information to those who share similar interests and values.

Campus and community events may include OU sponsored Arts & Entertainment activities, OU hosted Athletic events, OU promoted speakers and forums. Several calendars are available for students to search for ideas and meeting dates, including What to Do (ou.edu), Student Life (ou.edu), Intramural Sports (ou.edu), the OU Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Calendar, https://www.normanok.gov/events, and Oklahoma.gov.
For this assignment, each student will create a PowerPoint presentation of 10-12 slides that properly identifies and critically evaluates a student organization, campus event, or community group that is meaningful to you, suits your schedule, and occurs during the current semester.
The topic you choose for this assignment must be indicated in advance and approved by the instructor.
You (not anyone else on your behalf) must visit an OU student club, community group, or local organizations (in person or virtually) for one of their events occurring during the 2021 Fall semester and prior to the presentation assignment due date of September 23 (for the online section) or September 24, 2021 (for all face-to-face sections).
You must create an original, PowerPoint slide presentation that summarizes key elements of the group.
The slide presentation should explain why you selected the group.
The slide presentation should identify ONE applicable concept, term, toolbox idea, or theory from the readings that relates to the main message of your selected activity, meeting, or event.
The slide presentation should verbally express your thoughts and ideas, satisfy the information needs of the audience, as well as provide clear, concise, and entertaining coverage of a selected course related topic.
The presentations are due during Week 5 ( 23 - 24, 2021) of the 2021 fall semester.
On the due date, please upload and submit a copy of your FINAL set of PowerPoint slides via the course website.
The total contribution of this assignment to your final grade is 75 points or 15% of total grade.

The student slide presentation will be evaluated on the following specific criteria:

Slide Design: Choose wisely, on all the slides, the layout, readability, format, style, color choice, font size, spacing, picture use, and text placement.

Title Slide: Prepare a title slide with the title of the chosen event on one line, your first and last name on one line, the course name and term on the same line, the date one line, your course instructor’s first and last name, and a wallet size, headshot photo that clearly features your face.

Event Slide: Provide a concise and bulleted summary of the campus/community event that you attended, including…

Details of what, when, and where the meeting, event, activity occurred and who hosted/ sponsored it.
Identify the main topic being covered at the meeting, event, activity that you attended.
Describe the attendees/audience in terms of size of group, age, members vs. newcomers, questions asked, etc.

Topic Slide: How does the campus event relate to a specific concept in the course? Define & describe it.

Relevance: Explain how this campus/community meeting, event, activity affected your sense of belonging at OU.

Effectiveness: Prepare slide(s) on what aspects of the campus/community meeting, event, activity did you find to be…

particularly effective and why? What aspects of it did you find ineffective and why?
You must include both the effective and ineffective aspects.

Conclusion: Wrap-up your presentation with a “Something to think about” slide. Also, provide a separate references slide that at least lists the course required materials and campus/community meeting, event, activity as sources for your presentation. The last slide in your presentation should say “Thank You.”

8. Quality: Quality of writing style, proper grammar, correct spelling, formatting, and general proofing for errors. Upload and submit a copy of your FINAL set of PowerPoint slides via the course website.
