Assignment: PALSAR2 - Sentinel 1

Objective

The objective of this lab is to deepen your understanding of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data, and learn how to visualize different composites in Google Earth Engine. We will analyze both PALSAR-2 and Sentinel-1 images. 

Visualizing GLOBAL PALSAR-2 data.

Open up Earth Engine and type "PALSAR-2" Global PALSAR-2/PALSAR Yearly Mosaic dataset and read through the background information on the satellite and image properties. Note that polarization data are stored as 16-bit digital numbers (DN). The DN values can be converted to gamma naught values in decibel unit (dB) using the following equation:

• γ₀ = 10log₁₀(DN²) - 83.0 dB
