Course Overview

Welcome to ACCT 5202: Financial Accounting. In this course, you will learn the basic accounting model including recording business transactions and preparing financial statements of for-profit enterprises. A major emphasis will be placed on using financial statements for decision making by investors, creditors, managers and other users, and basic ratio analysis and valuation concepts will be introduced. Your interaction with the content and concepts of the course will be divided over 8 weekly modules.

Course Goals

The activities, content, and assignments in this course will guide your learning process to ensure you can:

Goal 1: Analyze the impact of operating, investing, and financing activities on a company's financial position.
Goal 2: Apply financial accounting rules to measure business transactions related to receivables, inventory, long-term assets, investments, liabilities, equity, and several types of revenues and expenses.
Goal 3: Construct and interpret the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows.
Goal 4: Conduct financial statement analysis to assess a company's return to shareholders, profitability, asset management, credit risk management, and valuation.
