How to Be Successful in This Course
Whether you are new to online learning or you are a pro, every course has its own structure, pace, and types of activities. The following are some tips or strategies that will help you be successful in this course:
Establish a Routine
Look through the syllabus, calendar, and module layout, and establish a routine. Take time to get familiar with the routine of the class, and schedule your own work time accordingly—ideally, multiple times during the week.
Each week, you should allow:
- 3-4 hours to read the assigned texts, cases, and/or articles. Be sure to annotate the reading before joining the Live Sessions.
- 1 hour to watch video lectures and take notes.
- 1 hour each week to post pre-session questions and discussion board items.
- 1 hours to participate in the weekly Live Sessions on Zoom.
- 1-2 hours to make progress on the individual assignments of your group project and meet with your team as needed.
You should allow a total of 7-9 hours per week. Please note that you will be required to submit all your reading annotations and discussion board comments before noon on Sundays before our live session. This will allow your instructor time to briefly review your submissions ahead of the Live Session.
Don't wait until the last minute to finish everything. Pace yourself. Research indicates that distributing your study throughout the week, and regularly reviewing learning materials, can lead to better recall and improved learning gains over students who opted for fewer, more intensive study sessions.
Course Expectations
All students are expected to have a professional interaction with the instructor and each other.
- Discussion Board Etiquette: Keep it fun but professional.
- Etiquette for Live Sessions: You may turn on your webcam.
- Group work: Collaborate and keep a positive attitude towards challenges. No free-loading. Let your instructor know if circumstances will not allow for you to work in a group.
