Overview

This week focuses on the second essential family theory and therapy model: Satir's Human Validation Process with Families. Virginia Satir, known as the "Mother of Family Therapy," was an MSW (!) who used experiential methods to promote healthy emotional expression in families. Her unique techniques (the Iceberg, family reconstruction, sculpting, coping stances, etc) are methods that apply Bowen's multi-generational theory to experiential enactment in family therapy. You will conduct a Satir activity and reflect on your use of authentic self in social work practice.
