About This Chapter
In this chapter, you have learned that ethics is a system of accepted principles that make up an individual’s or group’s values and judgments as to what’s right and wrong. You then learned ethics are important in the study of intercultural communication because understanding various codes of ethics is needed in order to create shared meaning and understanding among different cultures. Next, you were taught that your ethical responsibility with regard to intercultural communication is to not make judgments about other cultures based on your own cultural ideas of ethics, morals, and values. The importance of adapting to various audiences was then discussed, and, finally, the various ethical perspectives—religious human nature, dialogical, and situations—were defined and discussed.
