Getting started and choosing a topic
Objectives: You should be able to articulate a research question and describe ways in which it might be narrowed or broadened.
Assignments and tasks
- Complete the LIT: Get Started Tutorial and Quiz.
- In the bibliography document you shared with me have your research topic finalized with a draft thesis statement Links to an external site.. Answer the 20 questions relevant to your topic. Start making a list of keywords you might use in a search.
- Post to the class discussion for the week and respond to classmates' posts.
Reading/Viewing
- Watch the citation style video for either MLA or APA, depending on which style you plan to use for your bibliography

Research Diagram
Below is a diagram for one way on how to think about theories. In many ways, developing a thesis is very similar. You will start your bibliography assignment with an assumption. From there you should gather evidence that both supports and contradicts that assumption, after which you can critically evaluate your sources and refine your thesis to align with the evidence you have collected.
