SDOH are like the trunk of a tree, connecting the roots to the environment. They are the factors in our lives that are not specifically medically related, but they greatly impact our health.

Think of the actual tree as health
Medical care is the trunk
SDOH are the roots and branches that support the tree

Include things from where we live our finances, & education

Root causes- “SDOH” can either help the tree grow strong (good health) or make it struggle (poor health)

Branch Effect : SDOH are like pieces of the tree that fit together perfectly. If one piece is missing or broken, it could affect the whole aspect of a persons health. Similarly if one branch is broken or missing it can affect the whole tree.

Preventing problems : If we understand and address SDOH, we can prevent health issues. Similarly its like taking care of the roots of the tree to keep it healthy.
