Knickman, JR & Elbel, B (2019). Jonas and Kovner’s Health Care Delivery in the United States 12^th Edition. New York: Springer Publishing Company. Be sure to get the 12^th edition as it contains many changes related to the Affordable Care Act.

The text is available through the OU Bookstore and online. It is also available in an electronic format. Reading assignments for each week of class are posted in Canvas.

Course Components

Syllabus Quiz - an extra credit quiz designed to test your knowledge of course requirements worth 5 extra points if completed by due date.

Student Video Introduction - A brief video introduction designed to introduce class members to each other and the faculty. 5 extra points

Quizzes- in addition to the Syllabus Quiz worth 5 extra points, there are 4 quizzes for credit worth 25 points each . These quizzes are designed to asses your knowledge of the material in the text chapters. All quizzes open at 12:01 AM on Monday and close at 11:30 PM on Sunday. The quiz may be taken at any time during the week. Quizzes are timed and can only be taken once. Quizzes are worth 25 points.

Short Papers - Each student will complete 5 short papers, no longer than one page. These papers are based on the topic for the week assigned and are designed to assess critical thinking skills and ability to apply knowledge. Short Papers are worth 20 points. All papers are due by 11:30 PM on Sunday.

Discussions - Each student will be randomly assigned to a discussion group each week. There are 5 graded discussions designed to share ideas about the week topic and provide student feedback. Each student will post by Wednesday at 11:30 PM a short post that provides new information on the topic. The student will post two additional posts by 11:30 PM on Sunday that provide feedback to other students in their group. Each discussion is worth 10 points.

Late Policy

Late work is accepted if the instructor is notified prior to the due date by e-mail of illness or an unavoidable cause. Late work has a 10% penalty for each day it is late.

Masking Syllabus Statement - Fall 2020

As outlined by the University of Oklahoma¹s Chief COVID Officer, until further notice, employees, students, and visitors of the OU community will be mandated to wear masks (1.) when they are inside University facilities and vehicles and (2.) when they are outdoors on campus and social distancing of at least six feet is not possible. For the well-being of the entire university community it is important that everyone demonstrate the appropriate health and safety behaviors outlined in the University Mandatory Masking Policy (https://www.ou.edu/coronavirus/masking-policy). As this mandate includes all campus classrooms, please make sure you are wearing your mask while in class. If you do not have a mask or forgot yours, see the professor for available masks. If you have an exemption from the Mandatory Masking Policy, please see the professor to make accommodations before class begins. If and where possible, please make your professor aware of your exemption and/or accommodation prior to arriving in class.

If a student is unable or unwilling to wear a mask and has not made an accommodation request through the ADRC, they will be instructed to exit the classroom.

These recordings are the intellectual property of the individual faculty member and may not be shared or reproduced without the explicit, written consent of the faculty member. In addition, privacy rights of others such as students, guest lecturers, and providers of copyrighted material displayed in the recording may be of concern. Students may not share any course recordings with individuals not enrolled in the class, or upload them to any other online environment.

Academic Misconduct

In addition to the course conduct policies outlined by your professor in the Course Syllabus in the online classroom, please review the Graduate Student Handbook.

It is the responsibility of each student to be familiar with the definitions, policies, and procedures concerning academic misconduct. The Student Code is available from the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, and is contained in the Student's Guide to Academic Integrity.

This site also defines misconduct, provides examples of prohibited conduct, and explains the sanctions available for those found guilty of misconduct.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the most common form of academic misconduct at OU. There is basically no college-level assignment that can be satisfactorily completed by copying. OU's basic assumption about writing is that all written assignments show the student's own understanding in the student's own words. That means all writing assignments, in class or out, are assumed to be composed entirely of words generated (not simply found) by the student, except where words written by someone else are specifically marked as such with proper citation. Including other people's words in your paper is helpful when you do it honestly and correctly. When you don't, it's plagiarism.

Religious Holidays

It is the policy of the University to excuse absences of students that result from religious observances and to provide for the rescheduling of examinations and additional required classwork that may fall on religious holidays without penalty. It is the responsibility of the student to make alternate arrangements with the instructor at least one week prior to the actual date of the religious holiday.

Copyright Policy

It is illegal to download, upload, reproduce, or distribute any copyrighted material, in any form and in any fashion, without permission from the copyright holder or his/her authorized agent. The University of Oklahoma expects all members of its community to comply fully with federal copyright laws. If such laws appear to have been violated by any user, the university reserves the right (1) to terminate that user’s access to some or all of the university’s computer systems and information resources and (2) to take additional disciplinary actions as deemed necessary or appropriate. Repeat offenders will be sanctioned and their privileges terminated.

Registration and Withdrawal

If you choose to withdraw from this course, you must complete the appropriate University form and turn the form in before the deadline. If you stop attending the course and doing the coursework without doing the required paperwork, your grade will be calculated with missed homework and examination grades entered as zero. This could result in receiving a grade of F in the course. Deadlines are shown in the Academic Calendar, which is available from the Office of the Registrar.
