Pre-Requisites
This course assumes knowledge of the material in introductory financial accounting (ACCT 2113).

You must have a Connect access code to complete the assignments and exams. You can purchase the Connect access code from the publisher's website by going to Canvas. In Canvas, you will see the McGraw-Hill Connect link to the left. By selecting that link, you will be taken to Connect to register and purchase access at that time.

Course Components
Readings:
In Canvas, you can find the Learning Objectives being covered each week. You should read the corresponding pages in the book prior to class. When reading the book, be sure to notice the discussion that includes not only how to do accounting but why we do it that way. A solid conceptual understanding makes learning and remembering the details of any discipline much easier.
Concept Overview Videos (COVs):
Watch the assigned Concept Overview Videos (COVs) and answer the graded question at the end of each one. These videos complement the assigned reading. Additional optional COVs are available in the Media Bank in Connect. You can select the COV that matches the Learning Objective of the content you want to learn more about. The assignment list and corresponding Learning Objectives can be found at the end of the syllabus.
SmartBook:
SmartBook includes an adaptive learning software. You will be asked a series of questions over topics in the chapter. Based on your confidence in your answer and your ability to answer the questions correctly, you will be guided through the assignment until a sufficient level of mastery is achieved.
In-Class Quizzes/Participation:
At the end of most class sessions, students will be placed in groups to complete a quiz over the topic(s) in the current class. During this time, you are expected to actively work with those on your team. Part of your grade for the course will be based on your performance on these quizzes, and additional participation points will be awarded based on your activity during class and during group quizzes. While the class is online, you will find the class more enjoyable and more rewarding the more you participate.
Homework:
Homework problems include a variety of types—journal entries, calculations, data visuals, dashboards, real-world analysis, ethics cases, note disclosures, general ledger, and Excel. Each of these assignment types is meant to help you develop specific knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in business. We will cover some parts of the homework problems during class, and the rest of the homework should be completed after class. Be sure to take advantage of Hint videos that are available with many assignments, and visit office hours that are available each week if needed. You can judge your development in the course by noting how well you understand the homework.
Exams:
Exams should be taken at the scheduled time. If a student needs to miss an exam for official university-approved activities or for personal reasons (sickness, family emergency, etc.), then the instructor should be notified before the exam period.

Final Exam Preparation Period
Pre-finals week will be defined as the seven calendar days before the first day of finals. Faculty may cover new course material throughout this week. For specific provisions of the policy please refer to OU's Final Exam Preparation Period policy.
Required Policies for Students On Campus
Emergency Protocol
During an emergency, there are official university procedures that will maximize your safety.
Severe Weather: If you receive an OU Alert to seek refuge or hear a tornado siren that signals severe weather:
- Look for severe weather refuge location maps located inside most OU buildings near the entrances
- Seek refuge inside a building. Do not leave one building to seek shelter in another building that you deem safer. If outside, get into the nearest building.
- Go to the building’s severe weather refuge location. If you do not know where that is, go to the lowest level possible and seek refuge in an innermost room. Avoid outside doors and windows.
- Get in, Get Down, Cover Up.
- Wait for official notice to resume normal activities.

Armed Subject/Campus Intruder
If you receive an OU Alert to shelter-in-place due to an active shooter or armed intruder situation or you hear what you perceive to be gunshots:
- Avoid: If you believe you can get out of the area without encountering the armed individual, move quickly towards the nearest building exit, move away from the building, and call 911.
- Deny: If you cannot flee, move to an area that can be locked or barricaded, turn off lights, silence devices, spread out, and formulate a plan of attack if the shooter enters the room.

Shots Fire on Campus Procedure
Fire Alarm/General Emergency
If you receive an OU Alert that there is danger inside or near the building, or the fire alarm inside the building activates:
- Leave the building. Do not use the elevators.
- Know at least two building exits
- Assist those that may need help
- Proceed to the emergency assembly area
- Once safely outside, Notify first responders of anyone that may still be inside the building due to mobility issues.
- Wait for official notice before attempting to re-enter the building.
