Course Components
Participation
- Live Sessions—There are points for being present at the live sessions and for participating in the discussions. If you are unable to attend a live session, to earn the points, please view the recording of the session and provide a short write-up (in bullet form not exceeding 50 words) on what you think were the main take-aways from that session. Your write-up is due by the end of the week for which you missed the session.
- Group Work—This will take place in the Live Sessions and will consist of discussions, case write-ups, and presentations.
Case Analysis
Cases simulate business decisions, which will allow you to gain some expertise in the managerial use of accounting information. The course case entails analysis and a write-up. Please see the questions for the case, located in each module, for more details.
The ground rules for case write-ups are:
- Maximum of 5 pages
- All exhibits or tables must be explained within the 5 pages
- What you choose to write about is almost as important as what you say about it
- Formatting specifications include:
- very briefly describe the purpose of the case
- state the question you are addressing
- add in the corresponding analyses
- present a specific recommendation with your reasons, if required (do not waste space repeating case facts).
- This assignment is due at the end of Week 8 and will be submitted through Canvas. You are strongly encouraged to start working on the Case Analysis at the earliest opportunity and not wait till Week 8. By Week 5, we will have covered enough materials for you to complete the assignment.
Quizzes
Quizzes are administered each week in the module (except the last week). The purpose of each quiz is to assess how well you have understood and can apply the key concepts from the materials covered each week.
The questions will be multiple choice encompassing short problems and theory. Quizzes are time-sensitive and the duration of each quiz will vary. Once you access a quiz, it will automatically close after the duration set for that quiz expires.
You may refer to your book and notes for the quiz, but be cognizant of the time-sensitive nature of the quizzes.
Budgeting Project
This is an individual assignment consisting problem 45 from Chapter 9. This problem will help you understand how to prepare sub-budgets and a comprehensive master budget.
The project is due by the end of Week 8 and will be submitted through Canvas.
Final Exam
There is one comprehensive exam at the end of the module. The duration of this exam is about 2 to 3 hours. The exact time will be communicated to you before your start the exam.
The questions can be multiple-choice, long problems, short cases and/or essays. Answers to all problems requiring analysis must be accompanied by your work to earn the full points. No credit will be given for just providing the answer, even if the answer is completely correct. You may refer to your book and notes for the exam, but be cognizant of the time-sensitive nature of the exam.
Bonus Assignment
The purpose of this individual, optional assignment is to provide your thoughts on an actual company’s cost management initiatives.
Note 1: The company can either be selected from publicly available information or the company you are or were working for.
Note 2: This assignment is due at the end of Week 8 and will be submitted through Canvas. You are strongly encouraged to start working on the Bonus Assignment at the earliest opportunity and not wait till Week 8. By Week 5, we will have covered enough materials for you to complete the assignment.

Communication

You should receive a response within 24 hours (not including weekends and holidays). If 48 hours or more have passed without a response, a follow-up email may be sent. Any urgent questions or concerns that require more immediate attention should be flagged as such in the subject line (simply write "urgent"). Emails will not be sent to personal email addresses. It is essential that you communicate with your OU email.
Late Policy
All assignments are due by midnight Central Time on the date listed. Late assignments will receive 0 points. Deviations from this requirement on any one of the assignments must be coordinated with your Instructor in advance for approval.
Exceptions will be made only for documented, Provost-approved University-sponsored activities or legally required activities such as emergency military service, jury duty, or documented serious illness or emergency and then only after discussing it with your Instructor first.
Email your Instructor if an emergency occurs. If a student has not completed at least half of the required assignments, a final grade of AW (Administrative Withdrawal) will be assigned with no grade or credit.

Final Exam Preparation Period
Pre-finals week will be defined as the seven calendar days before the first day of finals. Faculty may cover new course material throughout this week. For specific provisions of the policy please refer to OU's Final Exam Preparation Period policy.
Required Policies for Students On Campus
Emergency Protocol
During an emergency, there are official university procedures that will maximize your safety.
Severe Weather: If you receive an OU Alert to seek refuge or hear a tornado siren that signals severe weather:
- Look for severe weather refuge location maps located inside most OU buildings near the entrances
- Seek refuge inside a building. Do not leave one building to seek shelter in another building that you deem safer. If outside, get into the nearest building.
- Go to the building’s severe weather refuge location. If you do not know where that is, go to the lowest level possible and seek refuge in an innermost room. Avoid outside doors and windows.
- Get in, Get Down, Cover Up.
- Wait for official notice to resume normal activities.

Armed Subject/Campus Intruder
If you receive an OU Alert to shelter-in-place due to an active shooter or armed intruder situation or you hear what you perceive to be gunshots:
- Avoid: If you believe you can get out of the area without encountering the armed individual, move quickly towards the nearest building exit, move away from the building, and call 911.
- Deny: If you cannot flee, move to an area that can be locked or barricaded, turn off lights, silence devices, spread out, and formulate a plan of attack if the shooter enters the room.

Fire Alarm/General Emergency
If you receive an OU Alert that there is danger inside or near the building, or the fire alarm inside the building activates:
- Leave the building. Do not use the elevators.
- Know at least two building exits
- Assist those that may need help
- Proceed to the emergency assembly area
- Once safely outside, Notify first responders of anyone that may still be inside the building due to mobility issues.
- Wait for official notice before attempting to re-enter the building.
