Jeremy Bellah has worked in academic positions since 2009, teaching classes such as Operations Management, Quality Management, Project Management, Web Application Development, and Database Management. He earned a Ph.D. in Operations Management from Texas Tech University in 2009 and a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) in 2013. He is active in the professional community, serving on the boards of directors for the PMI chapters in both Amarillo (2017-2018) and Oklahoma City (2019-2020). With a professional background in software development, Dr. Bellah brings a unique perspective to teaching classes in the Management Information Systems Division at the University of Oklahoma.

Course Components
Live Session Participation
Interaction and engagement are vitally important, particularly in an online class. I use Live Sessions strategically to accomplish objectives that can only be done interactively. Expect to participate in meaningful interactions.
Each Monday from 7:00 - 9:00 pm (Central), I will host a virtual class in real time. The sessions will focus on the learning objectives associated with the module’s topics. I will record the first session and post a link to the recording in case you are not able to join us in real time. For the remaining sessions, I plan to use them to support collaborative learning. If you cannot participate, there are alternate assignments you can complete to earn the points.
Exams
There will be two exams given. The first exam will cover the material in the lectures. It will be submitted online, and a tool will be used to evaluate submissions for plagiarism. Students are expected to turn in unique work. If sources are used, those sources should be cited. The second exam will cover the material in the learning paths for the Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification (Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate - Certifications | Microsoft Learn). It will have the same format and submission method as the first.
Microsoft Learning Paths
Students will work through six learning paths on the Microsoft Learn website. These are the learning paths necessary to prepare for the Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification. For each learning path, students will submit documentation of completion and a short reflection about the content.
Homework Assignments
Each student will complete assignments according to what is posted in Canvas. These assignments were designed by an industry professional who manages business intelligence. The focus of the homework assignments is to deliver business value. A data visualization tool must be used to complete the assignments, but the questions are framed in the context of providing business value. Live Sessions will be used to work through homework assignments.
Presentation
Presenting technical information to non-technical business stakeholders is a crucial communication skill. You will use Power BI to create a data visualization using the data set of your choice. The goal is to tell a story with the data visualization. Your presentation will share the data visualization and reasons that make it effective. Presentations will take place during the final Live Session.

You can post questions about the course to the Course Help Board throughout the semester. Your classmates may be able to answer your questions.

Students are welcome to communicate with me. I will try to respond to all emails within 48 hours. The tail end of each Live Session is also a good time to chat.

Feedback
I will grade assignments within one week of the due date.
Late Policy
Except in extremely rare circumstances (e.g. documented proof of hospitalization, etc.) and except as noted above with respect to alternatives to joining a Live Session, no late submissions will be accepted.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the most common form of academic misconduct at OU. There is basically no college-level assignment that can be satisfactorily completed by copying. OU's basic assumption about writing is that all written assignments show the student's own understanding in the student's own words. That means all writing assignments, in class or out, are assumed to be composed entirely of words generated (not simply found) by the student, except where words written by someone else are specifically marked as such with proper citation. Including other people's words in your paper is helpful when you do it honestly and correctly. When you don't, it's plagiarism.

Land Acknowledgement

Final Exam Preparation Period
Pre-finals week will be defined as the seven calendar days before the first day of finals. Faculty may cover new course material throughout this week. For specific provisions of the policy please refer to OU's Final Exam Preparation Period policy.
Required Policies for Students On Campus
Emergency Protocol
During an emergency, there are official university procedures that will maximize your safety.
Severe Weather: If you receive an OU Alert to seek refuge or hear a tornado siren that signals severe weather:
- Look for severe weather refuge location maps located inside most OU buildings near the entrances
- Seek refuge inside a building. Do not leave one building to seek shelter in another building that you deem safer. If outside, get into the nearest building.
- Go to the building’s severe weather refuge location. If you do not know where that is, go to the lowest level possible and seek refuge in an innermost room. Avoid outside doors and windows.
- Get in, Get Down, Cover Up.
- Wait for official notice to resume normal activities.

Armed Subject/Campus Intruder
If you receive an OU Alert to shelter-in-place due to an active shooter or armed intruder situation or you hear what you perceive to be gunshots:
- Avoid: If you believe you can get out of the area without encountering the armed individual, move quickly towards the nearest building exit, move away from the building, and call 911.
- Deny: If you cannot flee, move to an area that can be locked or barricaded, turn off lights, silence devices, spread out, and formulate a plan of attack if the shooter enters the room.

Fire Alarm/General Emergency
If you receive an OU Alert that there is danger inside or near the building, or the fire alarm inside the building activates:
- Leave the building. Do not use the elevators.
- Know at least two building exits
- Assist those that may need help
- Proceed to the emergency assembly area
- Once safely outside, Notify first responders of anyone that may still be inside the building due to mobility issues.
- Wait for official notice before attempting to re-enter the building.
