About The Final

  • Course content tested: The Final exam will cover chapters MS 1-8,10. Some of the major subjects covered are in the list below, though this is not an exhaustive list. All of this will be in a practical context using R in all questions. You will need to be familiar with all the STATS in action applications in our textbook as well as SHINY and advanced R skills we have covered in our readings, labs, and quizzes. While the questions will be comprehensive, it will focus on chapters 7-10 theory and practice.

The FINAL will examine a selection of topics from the following theory and procedures:

  • Chebyshev and empirical theorems
  • Z transformations
  • boxplots
  • histograms
  • Use of dpqr stem R functions
  • Using SHINY apps including making plots interactive
  • apply() function
  • the overbooking problem of project 1
  • the MOAGUN "Stats in Action"
  • dplyr package -- the 5 verbs 
  • wrangling a data frame -- make a data frame "tidy", use tidyr::pivot_longer() 
  • ggplot2 package making aesthetically pleasing plots
  • uniroot(), roots
  • optimise(), minima/maxima
  • w-F simulation ( This is MS Theorem 6.7 )

Theorem 6.7 - how a random sample can be generated from a uniform sample; evaluated by inverting cumulative distribution

  • Proof related to SLR such as
    • the multiple LaTeX: R^2 statistic
    • LaTeX: \hat{\beta}_1 derivation
    • confidence interval for parameters

 

Directions

Use an RMD document and place all R code in chunks. Please place any extended proof on paper and add to RMD with ![](){} using a picture. Knit to HTML and upload this document (the HTML) on CANVAS. You may not open anything except Canvas (for the questions) and your R Studio application. In addition, you may use R's help files.

You will need the tidyverse package ( library("tidyverse") )

 

Assessment

A 100-point rubric will be used to assign points to your exam. There will be 5 questions covering various topics from Modules 1-15. You will be given 120 minutes to complete the exam. There will also be 15 minutes allotted to upload the final HTML file to Canvas.

 

Academic Integrity

  • Closed book -- you must not use any resources other than R studio, the Canvas page holding the exam, and R's help files.
  • All work should be yours only
  • No conversing with other students during the exam.
