Course Details
Course Description
This course focuses on understanding and applying quantitative methods and models in the context of aerospace and defense industries. The content of this course is organized around:

- Describing and visualizing quantitative data and understanding data distributions (descriptive statistics, data distributions and the standard normal distribution) using datasets from A&D settings
- Understanding relationships among such data and predicting outcomes (correlation, simple linear regression and multiple regression) relevant to A&D decisions
- Examining differences among data (analyses of variance and covariance) in A&D settings.
Course Conduct
This course, which focuses on the analysis and interpretation of quantitative data, will be taught using a combination of lectures and hands-on EXCEL labs. The emphasis of these activities will be on: (a) understanding quantitative methods and models; (b) selecting and applying appropriate quantitative tools and techniques; (c) interpreting the results of such analyses; (d) recognizing how different techniques are applied in the various areas of aerospace and defense. Data analysis will be done using EXCEL. Thus, the course will employ a problem-solving approach aimed at applying appropriate quantitative techniques to different A&D contexts and interpreting the results.

Course Components
Attendance
Record your attendance at the end of each session you are able to attend live. If you miss a session, please review the recording and submit a short summary via canvas. Please leave your cameras on and mute your microphone unless you want to speak. 25 pts per week.
Assignments
Three EXCEL based assignments are used for you to demonstrate your understanding of course contents. These are to be completed individually. If you have made a good faith effort on your assignment but are struggling with particular components, reach out to me so we can meet and I can get you moving forward. If you are struggling with EXCEL reach out immediately, don't spin your wheels because of a software tool.
Final Exam
To be completed via Canvas and submitted after the final session. Complete the exam individually. Open book / open note.

Questions in class are encouraged. Speak up, raising your 'hand' (zoom reaction) are both appropriate.
Feedback
I intend to grade assignment and provide feedback within a week.
Late Policy
Late assignments will have a 10% deduction per day.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the most common form of academic misconduct at OU. There is no college-level assignment that can be satisfactorily completed by copying. OU's basic assumption about writing is that all written assignments show the student's own understanding in the student's own words. That means all writing assignments, in class or out, are assumed to be composed entirely of words generated (not simply found) by the student, except where words written by someone else are specifically marked as such with proper citation. Including other people's words in your paper is helpful when you do it honestly and correctly. When you don't, it's plagiarism.
