Team Project

A group project is assigned every two weeks. Students are expected to show an understanding of the topics. By collaborating and presenting, students have an opportunity to practice discussing and receiving feedback from peers and the instructor.  There are a total of 5 team projects. Each is graded for a maximum of 100 points.

Final Project The Final Project will assess students' work by assessing the depth of research in a written report, as well as their written and oral presentation skills. 30% 
Weekly learning activities Zoom live sessions will consist of a Q&A on weekly topics based on the readings and lectures. Case studies will be introduced to give students practice applying concepts. 10%

(F) Course Components

a. Weekly Sessions:

  • Recorded Lectures: Each week, students will have access to one recorded lecture. These lectures will highlight key concepts and core material pertinent to the week’s topic in carbon capture and utilization.
  • Live Sessions: Following the recorded lecture, a live session will be held where students are expected to participate actively. These sessions are designed to facilitate discussion on the lecture materials, allowing students to delve deeper into the subject matter and clarify any doubts.

b. Biweekly Team Projects:

  • Collaborative Projects: Students will complete a team project every two weeks for five projects throughout the course. These projects are intended to foster teamwork and the practical application of theories discussed in lectures. Each project will address different aspects of carbon capture and utilization, encouraging students to engage with real-world problems and innovative solutions.

c. Final Project:

  • Capstone Assignment: As a culmination of the learning experience, students will undertake a final project that synthesizes all the concepts and skills acquired during the course. This project will challenge students to propose a novel carbon capture and utilization strategy, demonstrating their understanding of course materials and ability to innovate within the field.

  • Respect the privacy of those sharing. We are all learning together, and we must take from here what we have learned. Please respect that people may share how the topics in this course have impacted their personal lives and also that people may make mistakes while they learn.

Feedback 

You will receive feedback and grades for every assignment one week after the submission deadline. Discussions on lecture materials, course assignments, and grades are welcome throughout the semester. 

 

Late Submission and Attendance Policy  

We recognize that unexpected challenges may impact your ability to complete assignments on time or attend every class session. While we understand these challenges, maintaining a structured approach to late submissions and attendance is important to ensure the integrity and collaborative nature of the learning environment.

Late Submissions: Assignments are due on the date specified in the syllabus unless prior arrangements have been made with the instructor. Should you anticipate a delay in submission due to exceptional circumstances, be sure to get in touch with the instructor as soon as possible to discuss potential accommodations. Approval of late submissions is at the discretion of the instructor and will be granted based on the legitimacy of the circumstances presented. Late work submitted without a conversation with the instructor will not be graded. 

Attendance: Regular attendance is vital as it contributes not only to your own learning but also to the learning of your peers, who benefit from your contributions to class discussions. If you foresee difficulty attending a session, notify the instructor in advance. This allows us to plan accordingly and, where possible, make provisions to cover what you might miss.

Plagiarism 

The overall goal of this course is your learning. To demonstrate that you have reached this goal, the work you turn in needs to be your own. This includes putting written work into your own words and citing your sources as appropriate to avoid plagiarism. Penalties for serious offenses include a zero on the assignment, and egregious offenses can even result in expulsion from the university, so it is important to understand expectations. The most serious offenses can often be avoided by citing sources—when in doubt, cite it! As part of our work together, we will talk about how to accurately and responsibly cite sources, both to avoid plagiarism and to strengthen your arguments.  

Plagiarism, as defined by the OU Integrity Office, includes: 

  • Copy words and present them as your own writing. 
  • Copy words, even if you give the source unless you also indicate that the copied words are a direct quotation. 
  • Copy words and change them a little, even if you give the source. 
  • Even if you express it in your own words, it is plagiarism to use someone else’s idea as your own.
