About The Midterm

  • Course content tested: chapters 9, 11, & 12 in the MS textbook; content presented in modules 1-7
    • This includes table of counts and their analyses using the chi-square test, fisher exact test, and proof of confidence intervals.
    • For regression, it is expected that you know and have memorized the basic results: S^2, F_calc for the global and hierarchical tests, projection, and beta hat formulae as well as the fitting of models to data using the lm() function and its methods.
  • Exam Format: You will complete the questions and upload your answer file. Review the "Directions" section below for details.
  • Time limit: 60 minutes to take the exam + 15 minutes for uploading
  • Number of attempts: 1

Objectives

You must be able to use the following theory and procedures:

  • All functions used in conjunction with Chapter 9 including those from s20x R package
  • Perform chi-square tests appropriately on tables of counts
  • Fitting models to data 
    • Using global F-tests
    • Using Hierarchical F-tests
    • T-tests for betas
  • Discern and identify the different models
  • Use interaction well 
  • Interpret coefficients 
  • Make plots and summary tables

Directions

  • Use an RMD document and place all R code in chunks.
    • Please place any extended proof on paper and add to RMD with ![](){} using a picture.
  • Knit to HTML and upload this document (the HTML) on CANVAS.
  • You may not open anything except Canvas (for the questions) and your R Studio application. In addition, you may use R's help files.
    • You will need R studio running with the package s20x installed. Be sure it is installed before you start the exam.

Assessment

A 100-point rubric will be used to assign points to your exam. There will be 3 questions covering various topics from Modules 1-7. You will be given 60 minutes to complete the exam. There will also be 15 minutes allotted to upload the final HTML file to Canvas.


Academic Integrity

  • Closed book—You must not use any resources other than R studio, the Canvas page holding the exam, and R's help files
  • All work should be yours only
  • No conversing with other students during the exam
