Late Policy

Final Exam
The exam will cover everything from the course, and consist of multiple-choice questions. Readings, PowerPoint slides, exercises and our discussions of them afterwards, homework, and your notes from our class discussions are primary sources to study for the exams. Some questions will test your knowledge of the various principles from readings and discussions, while others will test your ability to apply that knowledge in specific situations, or to analyze a situation using principles of effective negotiating.
Class Participation & Professionalism
Attendance, active participation (quantity, quality, and consistency!), and professionalism are critical because the exercises and discussions we do during the live sessions form the foundation for skill development in the course. Active participation by preparing, engaging, and talking every "Live Session" not only increases what you remember, but enriches the learning experience for everyone. I grade participation after every Live Session, and will determine each person's final score at the end of the course.
NOTE: If you miss a live session, you will be docked 50 points!!! (I will allow one free absence, without penalty - but you must do the makeup assignment before the next session to receive this free absence without penalty). If you complete the makeup assignment you can receive 30 points back from what you missed. Instructions for the makeup assignment is listed under 'live session.' Also, I will also allow a max of 30 points of extra credit, explained below, which can help compensate for missing a live session.
NOTE: If you miss a live session, and hence that session's negotiation exercise, and don't give me at least three (3) hours notice before the live session, you will be docked AN ADDITIONAL sum of 25 points from the participation and professionalism grade!!! This rule is to ensure adequate pairing for the exercises, and that each student has prepared the correct role.
Homework Assignments
Each week you will complete a homework assignment that might be completing a self-assessment survey and writing a reflection paper on it, doing a specific negotiation activity on your own and writing a reflection paper on it, or analyzing a negotiation situation and writing a reflection paper on it. I will post written instructions every week.
Prep Template
You will submit brief answers, for 10 points each, to the applicable questions from Diamond's problem solving model (also called the four quadrant model). You don't have to answer each of the 20 questions, just the ones that apply to that exercise. This requirement assures you are prepared to negotiation at the beginning of each live session.
Simulation Guidelines
This class relies heavily on 'role play' exercises during which students will negotiate with one another. It is essential that everyone takes these role plays seriously. Your effort to act out the roles and negotiate seriously will have a direct impact on what you and others get out of the class. You are encouraged to experiment with new approaches, learn from your previous mistakes, and be creative during these exercises. Also, please share openly during the class debrief to nurture the best learning atmosphere for all.
After each exercise we will discuss the outcomes reached, strategies used, strengths and weaknesses, and lessons learned. All students are expected to contribute to these discussions regardless of your role.
More details are provided in the "Start Here" module.
Negotiation Development Plan
Write a personal development plan focused on your personal negotiation skills. The purpose of this assignment is to integrate what you have learned about yourself and effective negotiations in order to create a plan that will help you further develop these skills. The paper must include a title page and be no more than 5 double-spaced pages in length, using 12 point Times New Roman font and one inch margins. You are welcome to include tables, graphs, or appendices, but they are not required. In addition to an introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph, each paper will have three parts: (1) describe in your own words what is required for effective negotiating, (2) a reflection of your own personal negotiating strengths and weaknesses, and (3) a few specific goals to continue to develop your skills after the course.
Additional instructions will be posted on Canvas.
Hand in online at Canvas.
Extra Credit
I will allow a maximum of 30 points of extra credit in the course. Top performers on two predetermined exercises will receive 10 points of extra credit. I will explain specifics when I introduce the particular exercise. In addition, students may hand in a negotiation analysis paper worth 10 points. The paper is due at the time of the last live session, when we take the final exam. For this paper, pick a negotiation experience (past, present, or future) from your life and analyze the strengths and weaknesses using knowledge of effective negotiations from the course. The length of this paper should be about two to four double-spaced pages using 12-point Times New Roman font and one inch margins. You can only hand in one paper for extra credit. The final extra credit opportunity for 10 points will be to complete a negotiations survey at the end of the course (the link will be posted on Canvas).

Academic Misconduct
In addition to the course conduct policies outlined by your professor in the Course Syllabus in the online classroom, please review the Graduate Student Handbook.
It is the responsibility of each student to be familiar with the definitions, policies and procedures concerning academic misconduct. The Student Code is available from the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and is contained in the Student’s Guide to Academic Integrity, available at http://integrity.ou.edu/students_guide.html This site also defines misconduct, provides examples of prohibited conduct, and explains the sanctions available for those found guilty of misconduct.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the most common form of academic misconduct at OU. There is basically no college-level assignment that can be satisfactorily completed by copying. OU's basic assumption about writing is that all written assignments show the student's own understanding in the student's own words. That means all writing assignments, in class or out, are assumed to be composed entirely of words generated (not simply found) by the student, except where words written by someone else are specifically marked as such with proper citation. Including other people's words in your paper is helpful when you do it honestly and correctly. When you don't, it's plagiarism.
Go to http://integrity.ou.edu/students_guide.html to learn more about the rules for avoiding plagiarism. Test your skills in avoiding plagiarism by taking the library’s plagiarism tutorial, available at https://libraries.ou.edu/content/academic-integrity-tutorial

Adjustments for Pregnancy/Childbirth Related Issues
Should you need modifications or adjustments to your course requirements because of documented pregnancy-related or childbirth-related issues, please contact me as soon as possible to discuss. Generally, modifications will be made where medically necessary and similar in scope to accommodations based on temporary disability. Please see www.ou.edu/content/eoo/faqs/pregnancy-faqs.html for commonly asked questions.
Title IX Resources
For any concerns regarding gender-based discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, stalking, or intimate partner violence, the University offers a variety of resources, including advocates on-call 24.7, counseling services, mutual no contact orders, scheduling adjustments and disciplinary sanctions against the perpetrator. It is the policy of the University to excuse absences of students that result from religious observances and to provide for the rescheduling of examinations and additional required classwork that may fall on religious holidays without penalty. It is the responsibility of the student to make alternate arrangements with the instructor at least one week prior to the actual date of the religious holiday.
Copyright Policy
It is illegal to download, upload, reproduce, or distribute any copyrighted material, in any form and in any fashion, without permission from the copyright holder or his/her authorized agent. The University of Oklahoma expects all members of its community to comply fully with federal copyright laws. If such laws appear to have been violated by any user, the university reserves the right (1) to terminate that user’s access to some or all of the university’s computer systems and information resources and (2) to take additional disciplinary actions as deemed necessary or appropriate. Repeat offenders will be sanctioned and their privileges terminated.
Registration and Withdrawal
If you choose to withdraw from this course, you must complete the appropriate University form and turn the form in before the deadline. If you stop attending the course and doing the course work without doing the required paperwork your grade will be calculated with missed homework and examination grades entered as zero. This could result in receiving a grade of F in the course. Deadlines are shown in the Academic Calendar, which is available from the Office of Admissions and Records or online at http://www.ou.edu/admissions/home/academic_calendar.html
Student Grievances
In addition to any policies outlined related to submitting an informal or formal grievance by your professor in the Course Syllabus in the online classroom, please review the Graduate Student Handbook for more information about the process of submitting a formal grievance.
