Strategic Management

Welcome

Welcome to Strategic Management 250 at Mount Wachusett Community College, I am Professor Elmer Eubanks and I will be your guide through this course.

I hope you are excited to be at your capstone course and I hope to make it interesting and fun and a great opportunity to learn from each other.

The course will have several elements which will give you the opportunity to learn at your own pace as well as highlight your strengths including a fun game called Airline which you will play online with other team members and compete. By now you should have received an welcome emails for Airline, a simulation that is required for this course. If you can't find a welcome email from support@interpretive.com, please check your spam folders. If you still can't find a welcome email, then please request a User ID and Password by emailing support@interpretive.com--being sure to reference "Professor Elmer Eubanks" and "Airline".

It will be bundled along with the textbook but this should give you temporary access to start playing and since not everyone will purchase from the bookstore you can also buy the access at the www.interpretive.com/students Links to an external site.

Grading: My grading scheme allows you to focus on what you do best. There are many ways to get to the required total points. For example, you have 10 quizzes available one for each chapter int he book and I only keep your highest 5. Another example is your reading posts. Each week you will post a link to an article which will be shared with all and will give you 5 points each. You will also have several cases to read and post as well as discussions. (read your syllabus to see the different points you can obtain).

We will be going through modules for each week, once you complete a module you can move on to the next one. The first week will be light and only have you discuss a little about yourself. The second week will will have a discussion post as well as a case to post.

I will be posting complementary articles in each module for you to read along with PowerPoint presentations that should also complement your study.

Books: For those of you who can't afford the textbook there are a few alternatives: One is to purchase an older version. If doing so, your cases may be different, just let me know what version you are using.  You may also find an etext rental at

http://www.coursesmart.com/IR/5453671/9780132665827?__hdv=6.8 Links to an external site. as well as www.mymanagementlab.com Links to an external site. the course ID is eubanks17527 which also allows you to read the text online.

Another resource you can use since this course is mostly case based is to purchase cases at www.xanedu.com Links to an external site. course ID 467795 and to also get an etext from http://students.flatworldknowledge.com/course?cid=1562297&bid=684011  Links to an external site.the author is Dave Ketchen and Jeremy Short eISBN: 978-1-4533-3238-2

As I post your case assignments I will post one from each to allow you to select which case you have purchased.

That is it for this week. Please feel free to email me at eeubanks@mwcc.mass.edu with any questions.

Have a great week.
