Gathering and Creating Content

Gathering and Creating Content

There are many resources available to add to online courses. If you are converting a current face-to-face (F2F) course to an online format you may have all the content you need. If you are starting from scratch or need to provide alternate teaching or learning activities for students, the following are some helpful resources.

Course Template

Please note, a template is available to be added to courses that creates a fillable first module that contains pages. All of the items can then be duplicated to populate the course. To view the template click here (to view you all content you may need to log into Canvas)

Creating Online Lectures and Videos

Include mini-lectures throughout the course. Preferably in each module for a fully online course. These can be shorter videos (5-7 min each) on general or specific content. One of the easiest ways to do this is narrating PPTs and embedding them in Canvas. This allows you to record on a slide by slide basis. They are also interactive, as students can click through each slide, see what’s on the screen, and hear the instructors voice.

Think about:

  • What topics will you dive deeper into?
  • What topics/areas need additional attention?

Adobe Express
If you are faculty or staff and you are looking to create short video announcements or introductions, Adobe Express is a simple to use tool that comes as a part of the Adobe Creative Cloud provided to you by the University.

Video Resources

There are many options online for great videos to use in your online classroom. Below are a few options:

Creating Your Own Text Based Content

Use pages in Canvas to create your own text based Content. You can add images, videos, text, links, etc.

Example Page in Canvas title is Fireside Chats and the Use of Media and has photos of FDR and people listening to radios. Other text is indiscernible.
