How to Create a Page

To create a page in Canvas: 

  1. Click on the add (+) button in the module
  2. Select "Page" from the "Add" dropdown menu
  3. Select "Create Page" from the list
  4. Type in a Page Name (e.g., Module 1 Overview)
  5. Click "Add Item" 
  6. Once the page is added you will see it in the module
  7. To edit it, click on the title, then Edit, and then begin creating!
  8. Use the Rich Content Editor to edit text and to add images, videos, and links (information on the Rich Content Editor is included below as well as additional guides)

Rich Content Editor

When creating a Page, a toolbar will appear at the top, also known as the Rich Content Editor Links to an external site.. It has several useful features for editing the page. Below is an image of the Rich Content Editor.

The Rich Content Editor includes the content area, the menubar, and the toolbar.

  • You can add and preview content in the content area [1].
  • To format the page content, use the menubar options [2].
  • You can use the toolbar options to format text [3]; insert links, images, media recordings, documents, or icons [4]; access the Lucid EDU suite [5]; open external tools [6]; format paragraphs [7]; clear formatting [8]; add tables [9]; insert math using the Equation Editor [10]; and embed media [11].
  • To view all toolbar options, you may have to click the Options icon [12].

The Rich Content Editor is available throughout Canvas, allowing you to edit text and insert images, videos, links, etc. Whether adding a video to a discussion or an equation to a quiz, the toolbar functions the same way across Canvas.

Note: Students also have access to this toolbar, enabling them to format text, insert links, and embed videos wherever they can enter text.


How to Add Home Page

  1. Create a new page Links to an external site. in Canvas
  2. Design and save the page and make sure it is Published
  3. Set the page as the Front Page using the drop down from three dots in the upper right corner (the page must be saved and Published)

  4. Go to the Course Home Page and from the "Choose Home Page" option (1) select "Pages Front Page"(2) (the page you created should show as the Front Page)
