Overview: Lesson 3.4

Recovery and Restoration in Northern Uganda

In this Unit, we have explored the near physical and moral collapse of Uganda, particular the northern region of the country, through the horrific events that occurred there. You have read eyewitness accounts of the people, particular women and children, who lived through this conflict. You have analyzed the conflict and its complex undertones and causes. You have also examined the role social media played in bringing this conflict into the American conscience.

In this final lesson, we take a more hopeful perspective and look at the recovery of Uganda...again, particularly Northern Uganda. While many non-profits, charities, and NGO's rushed to assist the region immediately following the conflict, few remain. But those that DO remain are having remarkable impacts on the region. In this lesson, we look at four of those entities (one of which is our own university) to examine how they are working to create a lasting and sustainable peace in the region.
